The article deals with the values and meanings in the context of "humanistic deep analysis" by Erich Fromm, in the context of modes of human existence: to have or to be. The authors study the categories "values" and "value orientations of the individual" and analyse the developmental process of human freedom. The problem of personality and freedom is closely related to the problem of its nature. The article reveals the nature and the needs of the individual and the ways to fill them. The authors address the issue of the future, which inevitably rests on the issue of values, main priorities that people and their groups, peoples and states, cultures and civilizations will follow. Man as the unity of body and spirit, not only disembodied intellect, is guided by thought, feeling and action. The article analyses Edward Fromm's view on personality. He notes that every intellectual being has two options for attitude to the world: productive, when his activity aims at improving himself and the world around him, and unproductive when he becomes a dependent, a consumer of a previously created or worse, when his efforts aim at denying the existing order and its destruction.
