This article is devoted to the works of the Central Asian expedition of the American Museum of Natural History (New York) in Mongolia in the 20th years of XX century. Member of the expedition N. Nelson opened to the world the ancient history of Mongolia. In the Gobi Desert and the Valley of the Lakes they had discovered stone artifacts relating, in his opinion, to the periods of the Middle and Upper Paleolithic. Neolithic finds have been made along the entire route of the expedition, not only in Mongolia but also in China.
