The article is devoted to the analysis of the church educational activities of one of the most talented St. Petersburg preachers and publicists of the early 20th century, Priest Gregory Spiridonovich Petrov. His name and writings were undeservedly forgotten after his deposition in 1908, but his example of ardent church service in the period from 1891 to 1908 is vivid evidence of the existing possibilities of church educational activities in the Synodal Period. An unbiased look at the ministry of the Priest Gregory Petrov allows one to see the entire spectrum of his activities, including, in addition to worship, active preaching, teaching the law, church journalism, personal constant charity and participation in the gathering of the church community, advocating the spiritual revival of the people and the Church.
