The petition of Siberian Cossack Astafiy Mikhalevskiy (1636)

The published text of petition of Tomsk son of boyar Astafiey Mikhalevskiy (Michalewski) dated April 5, 1636 contains the details of his biography, the history of his conflict with his commander A. Z. Prosovetskiy, information about his participation in military operations in the mid 1630's., about tactics of the Russian military men and aboriginal nomads. In his petition we can found information about his own notions of honor and social ties within the «community of foreigners» in Russia. In the introduction we provide short biographies of A.
