N. S. Leskov was always interested in the phenomena of devoutness and faith. His journalism of 1880-1886 and a cycle of stories «Stories to the Purpose» are the best evidence of his passion. The writer’s understanding of belief does not contradict to Christian theological interpretation of faith. Featuring a believing person, N. S. Leskov adheres to Christian spiritual and esthetic traditions.
