The analysis of written sources helps connect the fragments of three types ofroof tiles found within the compound of the Solovetsky Monastery to three specific dates. The grey-burnished tiles must be attributed to the Guest Cells of 1644. The roof tiles forthe Guest Cells were made by a Moscow tile-maker called Khariton. The glazed crenu-lated roof tiles decorated the small dome and the dome drum of the wooden St. HermanChapel built in 1663. Red clay tiles were produced on the Solovki Isles for two decadesstarting from 1799 to cover roofs of the cell buildings.
