Data on the dynamics of reproduction of Beroe ovata in situ, depending on the abundance of its food - Mnemiopsis leidyi - were obtained for the first time for the Black Sea. As the fertility of adult B. ovata as the growth of its larvae directly depend on the amount of food consumed. The reproduction rate of B. ovata, the development of eggs and the growth of larvae in the first days of life were studied. The dependence of the daily dynamics of egg production, the rate of their development, and the growth rate of larvae depend on the water temperature. The mechanisms by which B. ovata succeeds in achieving reproductive success in a short time are discussed.
