Numerical simulation of the capture processes into traps for diffusing particles

The process of particle diffusion in random medium has been studied in many works. However, despite this, issues such as the change in the nature of diffusion processes in random medium, the possibility of phase transitions in electric fields, and the asymptotic behavior of the survival probability of diffusing particles when captured by traps remain not fully understood. In this regard, the authors carried out a series of numerical experiments for a one-dimensional space (in the form of a real axis). The authors describe and implement algorithms that simulate particle diffusion for several cases: fixed and random placement of absorbing traps. Pseudo-random generation algorithms were used to emulate the “randomness” of particle movement. The paper describes the algorithms, the methodology for conducting experiments and the results of the experiments. On the whole, the obtained results confirm the theoretical computations, and new regularities of catching were found.
