Transosseus osteosynthesis for pelvic and acetabular injuries in case of polytrauma

During 5 years (2001 - 2005) we studied 983 patients with the injuries of pelvis ring and acetabulum in case of polytrauma. In the period of treatment 255 of them were subjected to transosseus osteosynthesis using external fixation devices. The authors used both standard and original configurations of devices. The nearest and long-term results of treatment were observed. The study has demonstrated that in patients with pelvic injuries and polytrauma transosseus osteosynthesis is the method of choice. It is impossible to conduct treatment of patients without firm pelvic stabilization when active mobilization of a patient is required to avoid the the hypodynamia induced and to prevent complications. Transosseus osteosyntesis with external fixation devices answers these requirements best of all.
