Research examines the current development of the digital economy in Russia. The paper studies the stages of digital economic development in the Russian Federation. Based on the conducted research, it is concluded that the development of the digital economy in all its segments is determined primarily by the existing interests of the state. Understanding these interests by all economic participants is crucial, as it allows for planning future activities. To understand the interests of the Russian state, an analysis of the current national project Data Economy and Digital Transformation of the State was conducted. This project is a continuation of the previously existing national project Digital Economy of the Russian Federation. As part of the national project Data Economy and Digital Transformation of the State, an analysis of the federal projects included within it was conducted, examining the challenges they address. Among the federal projects analyzed, key ones were identified that shape the future development of the Russian Federation's national economy. It was concluded that, to further develop the country's digital economy, it is necessary to use new mechanisms for financing project-based and other activities, based on the introduction of the digital ruble. The use of the digital ruble will not only improve the efficiency of funding government projects but also reduce corruption in the public sector.
