The article analyzes the results of the introduction of digitalization and its impact on the identity of modern Russian education and society. The authors consistently review the main milestones of the technologization of the school system - those activities of the state that were aimed at introducing digitalization into education - and prove that the introduction of digital technologies into the educational process has actually reduced the quality of learning, and the transition to online formats has led to a decrease in the quality of training, especially in technical fields, where practical training with the use of specialized equipment plays a key role. Opinions of proponents of digitalization are analyzed, their arguments and foresights are considered, which are aimed at a purely technological approach to the human being: not as a unique individual in all the diversity of manifestations of his/her identity, but only as an element of the production process with a given set of strictly limited functions. Objective assessments of the digitalization of education are given, based on research and scientific facts, which allows to conclude that only reliance on traditional values, on the national educational ideal, and not on digital identity can save modern society from the totalitarianism of technology and digital slavery.
