Th e article is devoted to the analysis of the experience of creating an exhibition of the private collection of the Chelyabinsk collector V. Ya. Rushanin through the prism of the concept of H. Zeeman's curatorship. Over the past 20 years, a wellknown scientist, a historian of prerevolutionary education in Russia, has collected collection materials on the history of the Russian school with a noticeable bias in the problems of provincial education and personalization. In the article, the practice of gathering is considered as a form of preservation and transmission of cultural memory; the phenomenon of a complex private collection as a text of culture open for dialogue; exhibition as a way to include heritage in a modern cultural space. Th e exhibition “Russian School: Past Tense” (Chelyabinsk, 2022) is of interest from the point of view of the experience of analytical refl ection on the relationship between science and private collecting, collection and its author, exhibition practices and non museum institutions. Appeal to the legacy of H. Zeeman demonstrated original ideas resurrecting in modern culture about the specifi cs of the exhibition visualization of the unique human life world and curation as a strategy for the author's project.
