One of little known problems on the eve of the Second World War is secret diplomacy of Great Britain aimed at settling disputable problems with nazi Germany, Danzig and Danzig corridor including. Documents of the National Archives (London) make it possible to widen our knowledge of the secret Anglo-German contacts, reasons which made them to be possible and factors influenced on their failure. The analysis of the archival documents helps to come to a conclusion that the N. Chamberlain’s government up to the start of the Second World War counted on amicable agreement with Hitler at the expense of Poland, which in its turn influenced negatively on the talks between Great Britain, France and the USSR. Thus the Second World War became inevitable.
