Data has become one of the key aspects of everyday reality and as such is widely reflected in the media as both a new way of presenting the reality and means of gathering insights. MIL now includes data literacy, and the term requires conceptualizing within media information literacy system, and mapping skills and competencies comprising data literacy. In this paper, the authors review world practices in teaching data literacy and describe clusters of skills needed in the area. The paper is also the first to suggest the Russian term for data literacy. We see the development of this study in creating the skill and competence map of data literacy and conceptualizing it as interdisciplinary and cross-curriculum approach.
