The paper explores some materials from multi-year excavations carried out in the estate of the writer Fyodor Dostoevsky. The estate is now a museum. The excavations uncovered the entire center of the estate where some buildings were probably located. The main focus of this paper are ceramic items from three refuse pits reliably dated to the second half of the 18th - turn of the 19th centuries and the first half of the 19th century. The authors identified the type of ceramics with rims decorated with double bands on the external side which, in the view of the authors, is a distinctive feature of ceramics from the 1810s-1830s. The analysis has shown that there is no archaeological evidence that the area excavated in the estate (within the boundaries of the modern museum) was used when the Dostoevsky family lived there in 1832-1839.
