Masters' inscriptions with indicated dates from St. George cathedral in Yuryev-Polskoi

The paper is devoted to the publication and interpretation of several engravedinscriptions discovered on the walls of St. George Cathedral inYuryev-Polskoi. The inscriptionsfall within the early 16 th c. and contain indicated date. Among the inscriptions' authors itis possible to single out a person named Ofonos (Athanasius) to whom two inscriptionsbelong. The author presents some ideas concerning the reasons that caused the inscriptions,and their function as prayerful formulas of stonemason masters.
