The practice of law in the context of the sociology of management: problem statement

The research substantiates the need for a sociological analysis of the practice of law. The study on the practice of law within sociology inevitably requires an interdisciplinary approach as this issue deals with the interface among jurisprudence, sociology of law, and sociology of management. From the standpoint of law, current Russian legislation does not empower the lawyer community to affect the legal regulation of various economic entities. In the sociological terms, lawyers are regarded as management entities that can have an impact on the present-day legal regulation in various fields, including the entrepreneurship. The authors prove that a lawyer performs the functions of a social management entity. To illustrate the functions highlighted, the study describes the findings of the expert survey of lawyers working in the law field of the city of Novosibirsk. The paper shows the results of an empirical research. Since Russian lawyers do not perceive themselves as management entities, the study presents such reasons for the current situation as the small number of lawyers and their workload.
