Activities of library dynasties as a factor of the development of library business in Smolensk province in the second half of the XIX - beginning of the XX century

The article presents the activities of library dynasties in the Smolensk region in the 2nd half. XIX early. XX centuries The motivation for the study, the purpose of which is to study the role of library dynasties in the development of libraries in the Smolensk province, was the lack of a complete picture on this topic. The research problem lies in the poor scientifi c coverage of this topic. To solve it, a set of methods was used: the comparison method, analysis and synthesis of sources on the research topic. The source base for this study is published and unpublished materials (archival documents of the State Archives of the Smolensk Region). The biographies of the library dynasties of the Smolensk region library employees, people from diff erent classes, who worked in diff erent periods (prerevolutionary and Soviet) are analyzed. The results of the study are of practical importance: in the study of the course "History of librarianship" and to improve the activities of libraries.
