This article provides an overview and analysis of the historiography of the activities of the urban Orthodox parish of the mining Urals during the Great Russian Revolution, the Russian Civil War, and the formation of Soviet power at the beginning of the 20th century. The main focus is on research published since the 1990s. The peculiarities of the approaches to the study of parish activities in the organization of the church, closely related to a specific territory, and its place and role in society and the state are revealed. Despite the vastness of the territory of the mining Urals, the main emphasis is placed on studying the historiography of the activities of Orthodox parishes of large district centers which had received urban status by the beginning of the period under study. The article emphasizes that despite the growing interest in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church, modern research has been insufficiently comprehensive on the role of the Orthodox parish as a territorial structural unit of the church in the life of the cities of the mining Urals. The versatility of parish life and the integrity of the historical picture of the religious life of the mining Urals continue to be understudied.
