The study discusses the protection of the indigenous peoples of the North by the executive authorities of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in the early post-Soviet decade. Based on previously unpublished archival sources, the author analyzes the activities of the Ministry for the Affairs of Indigenous Peoples of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), examines the structural changes in the department, identifies the focus areas of the Ministry, and reveals the successes and failures of its experts. The research emphasizes that the unique management practices of Yakut Ministry responsible for all aspects of daily life of the indigenous peoples of the North from the economy to spirituality have not lived up to expectations. One reason for the failure included the complicated structure of the Ministry that prevented it from prompt responses to time requests.
