Activities of state and military administrative bodies regarding maintenance of air defence forces with armaments and equipment (second half of the 1980s - first half of the 1990s)

Relevance of the paper lies in the fact that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are currently modernizing their armaments, the aim being to create a capability that could help the country to repel an external threat of an armed conflict or large-scale war by one or a coalition of states. In this regard, particular relevance is attached to studying the experience of state and military bodies in the technical improvement of the armed forces, one type of which is the Air Defence Forces. Based on the study of extensive archival sources, the paper presents the authors’ vision of the panorama of the development of the Air Defence Forces and their provision with new armaments and equipment in the second half of the 1980s - first half of the 1990s, at a tipping point for our country. The authors emphasize the difficulties and problems faced by the command in solving this responsiblities, which will help to avoid a repeat of the past wrongs.
