The fight of health authorities in Nizhny Novgorod territory against social diseases at the turn of the 1920s-1930s

The research identifies the regional circumstances of the struggle of public health departments in Nizhny Novgorod Territory with sexually transmitted infections and tuberculosis as a public health hazard at the turn of the 1920s-1930s. The relevance of the study is determined by the lack of historical studies on this issue and the social disease surge today. The author analyzes public initiatives to develop a set of measures to combat social diseases and their implementation by regional and district health departments. The issue is considered in the context of social and economic development of society. The research is based on the all-Russian and regional archives and local periodicals. The author reveals the key points of health authorities’ fight against social diseases in Nizhny Novgorod Territory. Data on the health situation in ethnic regions are introduced as well.
