The article briefly examines the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church and mass Soviet public organizations in the Central Chernozem region. The main stages of the activity of organizations in the region are investigated. The relevance of this scientific research is substantiated. The source base intended for scientific research is analyzed. The relevance of the research is primarily due to the insufficient development of this topic in historiography. The research was based on the materials of the state and socio-political archives of the Belgorod, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk and Tambov regions, individual storage units of the 5407 fund of the State Archive of the Russian Federation, as well as a number of published, and currently little-known sources.
