The study of historical pages of the Orthodox Church and singing culture on the basisof archival documents is an actual problem of our modern age. In the spotlight ofthis publication is the activity of the well-known St.-Petersburg Metropolitan choirin the end of XIX and the beginning of XX century that was not only an importantliturgical singing ”component” in the history of Alexander Nevsky Lavra, but alsoplayed a significant role in the church and singing history of St. Petersburg and inRussia in the whole. During the study of archival materials special attention waspaid to the features of the development of the St. Petersburg Lavra singing tradition,to the clarification of the historical data on the activities of arch-chanters and theirassistants, to the quantitative and qualitative (timbre) structural composition of thechoir, to the specifics of the repertoire focus and criteria of repertoire selection.
