Decorative-applied arts as a synthesis of folk culture and creation

The article examines the problem of teaching of decorative-applied arts at an Art Institute. It is noted that decorative-applied arts despite of a “respectable” age haven’t lost the positions in the complex kaleidoscope of modern art and preserved the art traditions of folk crafts. The main reason of this successful adaptation is a synthesis nature of the investigated phenomenon. The variety of the synthesis existence in art is shown. The definition of folk culture is shown through the system of the material and spiritual values of the Russian people as a social community. It is noted that folk culture acts as the material and the spiritual foundation of the existence and continuous development of the decorative-applied arts. Particular attention is drawn to the fact that the decorative-applied arts are also the most important factors in the development of folk culture, marshalling the ancestral origins of the spiritual life of the Russian people, demonstrate their moral and aesthetic values. The key features of decorative-applied arts such asreasonability, functionality, relevance and structure are defined. The functional definition of the investigated phenomenon as a synthesis of folk culture and creation within the framework of the decorative arts is given.
