Wooden Wells of 17 th Century Moscow as Archaeological Objects

Бесплатный доступ

The paper focuses on the wooden wells of the 17th century as one of major types of engineering constructions related to water supply and disposal. Using the case study of the pyramidal wells discovered during the archaeological excavations in the High Monastery of St. Peter (2016) and the Novodevichy Convent (2017–2020), the paper describes technical design features of their construction. It also examines drainage wells for water disposal. It is inferred from the analysis that the pyramidal wells had a composite structure, they were made of three logged components and were also used as water intake.
