This article discusses the peculiarities of the development of deviant religious cults in the XXI century, reveals the concepts of religion, post-secularity, lists and characterizes examples of deviant religious movements. The authors consider it necessary to investigate the problem of religious deviation from the position of religious communication in the context of socio-systemic relations, which, in fact, leads to an updated understanding of this complex phenomenon. As a result of applying a system-communication approach to the study of the motley picture of religious deviation in Russian society, it is possible to establish well-defined contours of personal deviant religious perception and its place in the social system of religious communication. Its deviant forms are directly related to many different manifestations of social communication, which, changing, lead to the transformation of the latter. The definition of the communication code of religious ties makes it possible to foresee the prospects for the development of religious deviation in a variety of forms.
