The article explores the notion of disinformation as a topical subject of modern research in the field of media linguistics, political linguistics, cognitive linguistics, and pragmalinguistics. The author elaborates on the role and place of disinformation in mass-media in the so-called ‘post-truth era’, which is characterized by vague boundaries between truth and falsity, cognitive illusions, increased social uncertainty, and the substitution of objective facts for subjective evaluations and judgments. Disinformation is defined as the transfer of false knowledge as true or true knowledge as false. The addresser is guided by the intention to deceive the mass addressee and elaborately implements strategies of information distortion and silence via different language means.
