Diagnosis and treatment of congenital malformations of the lungs and mediastinum in newborns and young children

The widespread introduction into medical practice of antenatal screening (ultrasound) of pregnant women not only contributes to the early diagnosis of congenital pathology, but also "discovered" relatively new problems of surgical neonatology, which include malformations of the organs of the thoracic cavity in newborns and young children requiring surgical treatment. The proportion of these defects are extremely high: among live births - 3.3%, in the structure of perinatal losses - 20.6%, in the structure of infant mortality and child morbidity - 20.1%. Most of these defects are currently diagnosed antenatally, which makes it possible to treat children in a timely manner, before complications develop, and significantly reduce perinatal mortality rates.
