Diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of orbit and lacrimal passages (historical sketch on the occasion of 195th birthday anniversary of the first in Russia department of ophthalmology of Military Medical Academy)

The department of ophthalmology of Military Medical Academy has reached the age of 195 years. One of the focus areas in the department is further studing of orbital and lacrimal injuries and diseases. In this paper the history of this direction developement is represented. The particularities of orbital and lacrimal passages pathology and its social significance is highlighted. The important comments is directed to the associated character of orbital pathology and the necessity of collaboration in the diagnosis and treatment with other medical specialists closely related to the head. Together with traditional diagnostic methods the new and perspective ones are pointed out. The special attention is given to the minimally invasive treatment of lacrimal passages patology.
