Dialogues about justice: before the court of conscience. The speech of the defender in the jury trial

This article is devoted to discussing topical issues related to the preparation and delivery of a defense lawyer’s speech in a jury trial. The authors note the peculiarities of jury trial as an independent form of legal proceedings, which must be taken into account by lawyers involved in such cases. The legal and ethical requirements for speech before a jury are considered. The methods, means and techniques used by the defense counsel to refute the evidence and conclusions of the prosecution, substantiate their own version, and convince the jury of the defendant’s innocence are analyzed in sufficient detail. The most successful examples of statements contained in the speeches of the defenders before the jury are given and commented on.
