The dynamical correlation of the peregrinative forms and the purpose complex sentences in the Chukchi-Koryak languages

Бесплатный доступ

The paper on the data of the three Chukchi-Koryak languages (Chukchi, Koryak and Alutor) examines the dynamical correlation of morphological peregrinative forms (‘go in order of doing smth.') and the purpose complex sentences, competing as two means for expression of the purpose semantics. In the Chukchi and Alutor languages, the peregrinative is fully grammaticalized, and it is so far the primary means for the expression of the purpose semantics, despite the influence of the Russian language, which is manifested in increasing of the purpose complex sentences and decreasing of the peregrinative forms, lacking in Russian. In the Koryak language, the peregrinative forms are rare either because of their incomplete grammaticalization, or as the evidence of the high degree influence of the Russian language.
