Dynamics of labour migration in the Russian Federation in 2000-2008

The article deals with the recent developments in the labour migration. Currently there are over 30 million unemployed or economically active people being outside the labour market in Russia. Still, there a real need in attracting additional labour resources from other countries to sparsely populated regions and economy branches, which are in poor demand among the natives. The greatest flows of legal labour immigrants come from the "visa-free" CIS countries. But regulation of labour migration from these countries remains one of the weakest points in the Russian migration policy.
