IHD is a myocardial lesion caused by a disorder of the coronary circulation that occurs as a result of an imbalance between the coronary blood flow and the delivery of oxygen to the heart muscle. IHD is based on an organic lesion of the coronary arteries, caused in the vast majority of cases by stenosing atherosclerosis, which can be accompanied by thrombosis. Less commonly, the cause of coronary artery disease may be the functional conditions of the coronary arteries (spasm or increased tone of the coronary arteries), which, ultimately, are also superimposed on the existing defects in the endothelium of the coronary arteries.
