The development of distance learning technologies in the national higher school from the 1990s to the present is considered. Successes and difficulties along this path are noted. The practice of using distance educational technologies in the transition of universities to distance learning is analyzed. It is shown that in a critical situation caused by the spread of coronavirus infection, these educational technologies have successfully passed a thorough test of strength, confirming the right to widespread use in higher education. Not giving remote educational technologies universal significance, it is proposed to more focused on solving problems that ensure the full use of their advantages.
