The article provides a brief review of the interpretation of the dogma “consubstantiality” and the distinction of the concepts “essence” and “hypostasis” in the works of St. Athanasius of Alexandria and Cappadocia Fathers of the Church of the IV century. The estimation of these works in the Russian theological literature of XIX — beginning of XX centuries and in P. A. Florensky’s work “Pillar and statement of Truth” is considered. The article also notes that this concept does not correspond to the ideas of St. Athanasius of Alexandria. Тhe author proposes to consider the interpretation of the dogma of “consubstantiality” by Florensky as the first experience of constructing “theology of pan-unity” which was implemented in Russian theology in the early twentieth century.
