The article presents an analysis of the works of European authors of the VI - XVI centuries, containing information about the Mordva people in the Middle Ages. Extracts from them were published in the collection Documents and Materials on the History of the Mordovian ASSR, which is a significant source base for researchers of the history and culture of the Mordva.
