The house of engineer Shardanov

The article reflected the events related to the history of the mansion of Ekaterinodar engineer Batyrbek B. Shardanov, in which is now located the exhibition areas of the Krasnodar State Art Museum. The author tries to reveal the motives for an engineer to build a kind of building is quite unusual for an architectural space of the young southern city. The possible sources of creative inspiration of Batyrbek B. Shardanov, who independently devel-oped the design of the building, are traced. An architectural description of the building and the characteristics of its location within the historical ensemble are presented. The role of the Shardanov mansion as a cultural center of Eka-terinodar in the early 20th century is revealed. The ways of organic incorporation of the mansion in the ensemble of the modern museum and exhibition complex are shown.
