The article deals with several aspects that indicate the relations of the Fyodor Dostoyevsky's novel "Crime and Punishment" with the genre of dime novels in general and Eugene Sue's novel “Mysteries of Paris” in particular. We have considered both the features of plot construction, which is typical as for "Crime and Punishment" as for dime novels (matches, plenty of melodramatic scenes, storylines and characters), and individual characters (Sonia, The Marmeladovs, Svidrigailov). The comparison of images of Sonechka Marmeladova and Fleur-de-Marie (“The Mysteries of Paris” by Eugene Sue) show not only the portrait likeness of characters, but also the similarities in their characters and fate. Also, we have emphasized the diversity of community, which is characteristic for genre of dime novels and for “Crime and Punishment”.
