Leisure of young workers: venues and leisure practices

The article describes the approaches to the definition of concepts "leisure" and "leisure practices". The author gives attention to the structure of leisure activity and time budgets of workers, and reviews the research works of modern Russian scientists on this subject. The characteristic and the description of leisure are based on the research and development data - in-depth interviews with the young workers from industrial enterprises in Ulyanovsk. They are studied at a ratio of the work activity and in the context of other everyday affairs. Factors which in many respects define types and forms of leisure are considered. Among them the important ones are: rigidly rated work-rest schedule (including its flextime), financial position of an informant, marital and parental status (children and spouses' age), urban or rural origin of the informant, its social contacts, subculture affiliation, etc. The paper describes the leisure activities peculiar to young workers related to the consumption of goods and media products. The author characterizes public and private venues of free time activities, as well as various preferences of the respondents in different periods of the year.
