In the review, a new monograph devoted to leisure practices of residents of the cities of the Kuban region and the Black Sea province are analyzed. The work is distinguished by the use of a wide variety of sources: periodic press materials, legislation and archival documents. Observations of the author of the monograph made it possible to fix the transition from the slowly and little-changed in time multiplicity of pre-reform leisure practices to the standard models of a peculiar entertainment industry. The sphere of leisure in the book is well represented as a space for intercultural communication among the inhabitants of southern Russian cities. In this space took place the distancing of work and rest, contacted and interacted the traditions and changed the attitude to idleness and timing. The book is richly illustrated with rare photographs, drawings and cartoons from local newspapers. The publication contains appendixes in the form of tables, compiled on the basis of archival and official sources, as well as a dictionary of special terms. Review of the book: Kryukova, A. V., Dosug i razvlecheniya gorozhan Kubanskoy oblasti i Chernomorskoy gubernii (1861-1914) (Leisure and Entertainment of Citizens of the Kuban Region and the Black Sea Province (1861-1914)), Krasnodar: Platonov I., 2017. Print run 100 copies. ISBN 978-5-904316-48-8.
