Trust of citizens as a basis for the effective functioning of district police officers

The study discusses the activities of district police officers in modern Russia. Nowadays, the priority of internal affairs authorities is to revitalize the low-level territorial bodies. The author focuses on the fact that trust of citizens is a major indicator of the effective functioning of the institution of district police officers. The results of public opinion surveys show the level of citizens’ trust in district police officers and demonstrate its growth in recent years as a result of the ongoing activities of these authorities. The emphasis is placed on the ability of the abovementioned institution to ensure public safety and order required to provide the dynamic stability of modern society. The basic functions performed by district police officers include the prevention of crimes and offenses based on regular community outreach. The author concludes that internal affairs authorities should continue to enhance the prestige of district police officers and citizens’ trust in them.
