The history of the Republic of Angola is replete with armed conflicts, long-term economic crises, corruption and bureaucracy. All this negatively affected public confidence towards the government institutions and led to an increased lack of trust in them. The situation is complicated by the fact that in Angola’s underdeveloped civil society, dialogue between the authorities and the people is fraught with considerable difficulties. Mistrust of the government increased amid a pandemic in which many organisations were forced to reduce personnel, leading to a rise in the country’s unemployment rate. The paper analyses the concept of “confidence in state authorities", considers the dynamics of its change in the society of the Republic of Angola, shows the extent to which the Angolans’ confidence in the power structures has declined, examines the causes of this phenomenon and the prospects for overcoming the political crisis in the interests of the country’s development are outlined.
