Social interactions reflect the most significant connections and relations between people, which makes their study increasingly important in various aspects. One of them is the role of trust in the self-regulation mechanism of interactions of young people. The interaction of young people with each other and with the representatives of other generations, with organizations and institutions implies the interdependence of social actions, i.e. the need for responses (reactions) from other actors. Reciprocity is the necessary condition of self-regulation of social interactions. Trust performs this function in the mechanism of self-interaction. The study of regulatory function of trust in this mechanism is necessary for a better understanding of the contradictions which arise in social interactions of the youth in society, which would contribute to the development of appropriate measures for the implementation of the youth policy. In the context of the problem of this study, the theoretical conceptualization of trust is implemented within the paradigm of phenomenological knowledge sociology as a phenomenon of social reality. Trust is considered within its dialectical relation with distrust and their intertransitions. The regulatory role of trust in the youth's attitudes to political and social institutions, in interpersonal relations, in the change of young people's social well-being is analyzed at the empirical level, based on the results of comparative sociological research, conducted by the Sociology Department of Youth Sociology of the Institute of Socio-Political Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the pre-crisis and crisis periods. The study demonstrates the connection of trust and distrust with traditional and modern attitudes among young people.
