Inquiry and preliminary investigation in the investigation of penitentiary crimes at the present time

The purpose of the article is to consider specific gaps in legislation and identify problematic aspects that arise in the activities of officials investigating penitentiary crimes. The author analyzes various points of view of penitentiary scientists concerning the procedural status for officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia and the possibility of exercising their procedural powers in the framework of a criminal investigation.
