Antiquities of the tushemlya-bantserovshchina-kolochin type: overview of ceramic typological systems

Бесплатный доступ

The paper compares typological systems used in analyzing hand-made ceramics of the Tushemlya-Bantserovshchina culture and related cultures in the neighboring regions (in particular, the Kolochin culture) described in literature since the 1960s. This comparison is needed to work out unified approaches and methods supporting further studies of antiquities from the vast areas where Kievan Rus emerged as a state in the subsequent period. The paper singles out historiographical traditions some which are deemed to be viable for ensuring consistency among various studies as well as developing a unified typology. It also outlines areas of research to address the task regarding the development of a common universal typological system for analyzing ceramic materials attributed to these cultural contexts.
