Human society is non-uniform. People are united into different social groups, with culture playing a shaping role in the social differentiation of society. These processes are most evident in a city where, under the influence of globalization and unification, the strict framework between ethnic cultures is eroded. With the opportunities provided by urban space, the diversity of views on the world does not disappear, but implements itself in the format of subculture. At first, everything that went beyond elitist culture was deprived of cultural status, and the term subculture signified phenomena perceived as non-cultural or non-cultural. The English sub-prefix (under-) designated the hidden, informal cultural layers. In keeping with the multicultural nature of society, attitudes towards subculture have also changed. Modern researchers admit that past attempts to displace subculture beyond culture are wrong, because its cultural code (or, more correctly, subcode, sociolect) continuously interacts with the code of the dominant culture. Under the influence of external and internal factors subculture forms certain stereotypes and values, which are displayed in a special collective or group language, which we, following representatives of the Perm School of Sociolinguistics, will refer to as sociolect. The phenomenon of subculture can be interesting not only from a linguistic point of view. Before embarking on a linguistic analysis of the vocabulary that a subculture forms, it is necessary to look at its history to trace the totality of what internal factors and external conditions contributed to the formation of a particular community. The article examines the drift in terms of its history. The stages of its development in different countries are shown, the main lexical units of drift description are determined, showing that this subculture forms its own language - sociolect.
