The relevance of this study is that today the introduction of drones for ice exploration on the Northern Sea Route (NSR), as well as the study and development of the Arctic is one of Russia's priorities. The authors present methods of ice reconnaissance, consider the advantages and disadvantages of using ground-penetrating radar on UAVs, and also provide an overview of reactive FPV drones with the ability to control using VR devices. In the course of the study, the prospects for the introduction of drones for the exploration of the ice situation when moving along the NSR were considered. In conclusion, a number of current tasks have been identified, the solution of which will help make this exploration of the operational ice situation when moving along the NSR the most effective.
