The article studies of ethno-political processes in the Finno-Ugric regions of Russia in the XIX – XXI centuries. Analyzing the trial cases (“Multan case”, “SOFIN case”) it presents two identity models in the Republic of Komi and Udmurtia. To understand the traditions of compromise in Komi culture, which contributed to the ethnic revival in the 1990s it analyzed the legacy of the philosopher K. Zhakov.
