In contrast, science treats the emergence of the universe, life and humanity as the result of a very long but completely blind force and sees no greatness, beauty or purpose in the universe itself. This picture was consistent with the scientific achievements of the mid- twentieth century, but no longer fits into the modern scientific picture of the universe.
